We live in Indonesia, a country rich in culture and traditions. Every society is shaped by its own culture and customs, and from these arise the norms and rules that guide people’s lives.
These norms become guidelines that people are expected to obey and follow. Yet, within the bounds of culture and tradition, many restrictions are still placed on women.
Some people believe that women don’t need a high level of education. This mindset hinders the progress of Indonesian women. If such cultural beliefs continue, instead of moving forward, our country could fall behind.
I often see young women in their early twenties already being asked, “When will you get married?” instead of being asked about their education. Women play an important role in society.
Education is not only for a woman’s personal success but also for the foundation of a strong family. An educated mother can guide her children with understanding, teach them empathy, and pass on meaningful values to the next generation.
However, every woman has the right to choose her own path in life. Some may dream of building a career, while others may find their greatest joy in creating a loving family and many choose to do both. What matters most is that the choice comes from the heart, not from pressure or expectation.
Yet we should also be honest: decades of research show that for most people, the deepest joy often comes from love from family, children, and close relationships that give life warmth and meaning.
For me, after my mother passed away, I spent almost a year at home taking care of my father and brother. During that time, I discovered how much joy I find in caring for others in building a life where love, purpose, and peace can coexist, and in creating a family filled with kindness, laughter, and harmony.
Since I’ve been here, the school and its environment have been so supportive. I’ve learned so much from people with inspiring mindsets. Day by day, even my lifestyle has changed all because of the positive environment I’m surrounded by.
Moving to this island changed me. It gave me the courage to start trusting again to imagine a future that includes both dreams and love. I also believe that every woman’s timeline is different. Some find love early, others later and that’s okay.
Working with children, seeing them with their families, always reminds me of the joy of having one. Maybe that’s what happiness truly is, not a career or a title, but the small, quiet moments of love we build day by day.
I’m so grateful to SkyWalker Academy for the opportunity and the trust they have given me. Here, I’ve learned that they didn’t just give me a job, they gave me a place to grow, to find purpose, and to understand that family is not something that holds us back. A real family is something we build with love, after we’ve learned to love ourselves first.
