Skyhawk Academy Students Achieve an Average of 1.64 Years of Academic Progress in One School Year

2025–26 Academic Growth Report
At Skyhawk Academy, we believe the most meaningful measure of a school's success is not simply examination results (although it should be noted that we are proud to publish our academic results), but how much each child grows from their own starting point.
That is why we use the internationally recognised IXL Diagnostic Assessment to measure academic progress throughout the year. Rather than comparing children against one another, IXL tracks the progress each student makes individually, allowing parents and teachers to see genuine learning over time.
We are delighted to announce that during the 2025–26 academic year, our students achieved exceptional academic growth.
Across all students in Grades 1–8 (we don't test our Early Years Programme students), the average progress was:
Mathematics: 150 points (approximately 1.5 years of academic growth)
English (ELA): 177 points (approximately 1.77 years of academic growth)
Together, this represents an average of:
1.64 years of academic progress per subject in a single school year.
Our school target is 1.5 years of progress each year. This means our students not only met our target in Mathematics, but exceeded it overall across both core subjects.
Why These Results Matter
Although the IXL Diagnostic measures English and Mathematics, these two subjects underpin almost everything else a child learns.
At Skyhawk Academy, our curriculum also includes:
Science
History / Geography
Humanities
Sociology / Psychology
Creative Writing
Project-based learning
Sport, dance, drama
Practical and collaborative classroom activities
Strong literacy is the gateway to learning across the curriculum. A child who reads confidently, understands complex texts and communicates clearly is far better prepared to succeed in Science, History, Geography and the Humanities.
Similarly, mathematical understanding develops logical reasoning and analytical thinking that benefit many other subjects.
For this reason, accelerated progress in English and Mathematics has a positive impact far beyond those individual subjects.
Every Class Made Excellent Progress
One of the most encouraging aspects of this year's report is that every class showed positive growth in both Mathematics and English.
Highlights include:
Middle School: 219 Mathematics points — more than two years of academic progress
Junior Class: 236 English points — more than two years of progress
Every class achieved positive growth in both core subjects.
Consistent results across every age group demonstrate the effectiveness of personalised teaching, regular assessment and small class sizes.
Learning Is More Than an App
Parents often ask how IXL fits into our teaching programme. The answer is that IXL is one important part of a much bigger picture. IXL provides structured lessons, explanations, interactive practice and immediate feedback. It also allows teachers to identify learning gaps quickly and tailor lessons to each student's needs.
In many respects, IXL provides the theoretical foundation for learning. However, education cannot happen through a computer screen alone. Real understanding develops when students apply knowledge in meaningful ways.
Every week our students build upon their learning through:
Essays
Creative writing
Poetry
Classroom discussions
Debates
Presentations
Quizzes
Scientific investigations
Practical activities
Collaborative projects
Teacher-led instruction
Individual mentoring
These experiences develop communication skills, confidence, critical thinking, creativity and independent learning.
If IXL represents approximately one-third of the learning journey, the remaining two-thirds happen through excellent teaching, classroom interaction and real-world application.
The impressive academic growth shown in this report reflects the combined impact of all these elements working together.
The Numbers Behind the Success
During the 2025–26 academic year our students completed:
829,265 questions answered
6,001 hours of learning using IXL both at school and at home.
Behind every one of those questions lies determination, encouragement from teachers and support from parents.
Academic success is always a partnership between school and home, and we are grateful to every family who has supported their children throughout the year.

Academic Results Tell Only Part of the Story
While we are extremely proud of these academic results, numbers alone cannot measure everything that matters. They cannot measure a child's growing ability to think independently, communicate clearly, tackle unfamiliar problems with confidence, work collaboratively, or persevere through genuine challenges.
Nor can they measure the quiet transformation that occurs when a young person begins to believe in their own potential. The ability to persevere when life becomes difficult. These qualities cannot be expressed in a graph, yet they often become the greatest predictors of future success.
One message we received this week reminded us of exactly that. In 2017, Kay became one of the very first students to join Skyhawk Academy. After four years with us, his family relocated to Switzerland, where he continued his education.
This week, Kay graduated from school and will soon begin an apprenticeship as a professional chef. His proud mother, Jenny, kindly gave us permission to share part of the message she sent us following his graduation.
"Yesterday was a big day for Kay—he had his graduation and his last day at school. After the summer, he will be starting an apprenticeship as a chef.
I was feeling so emotional and incredibly proud. He has come such a long way, and you, your wonderful family, and the school have all been such an important part of his journey.
From the bottom of my heart, I wanted to say thank you. We truly couldn't have done it without your support, kindness, and encouragement over the years.
Skyhawk Academy gave him so much more than an education—you gave him confidence, support, belonging and a place where he could grow and believe in himself.
Kay has faced many challenges along the way, but he has never stopped moving forward, and I am incredibly proud of the young man he has become."

As educators, there are few compliments more meaningful than hearing from a family years after they have left. We are incredibly proud of Kay and everything he has achieved, and we wish him every success as he begins this exciting new chapter.
Stories like his remind us that education is not simply about helping children pass examinations. It is about helping them become capable, confident young adults who are ready to build meaningful lives.
Looking Ahead
The outstanding academic growth shown in this year's report reflects our commitment to personalised learning, small class sizes, high expectations and individual support. The message from Kay's family reminds us why those results matter. Academic progress opens doors, but confidence, resilience and character help young people walk through them.
